File sharing is “safe” only if the product matches how you share. Big File Sharing is designed for short-lived, link-only transfers — not for publishing files on the open web.
Encryption in transit (TLS)
Uploads and downloads use HTTPS (TLS/SSL). Your connection to our servers is encrypted on the wire, the same class of protection used by banks and email providers in transit.
That is different from “zero-knowledge end-to-end encryption where even we cannot process the file.” We must temporarily store the file so the recipient can download it. We do not operate a public browse list of those files.
Private links, not a public directory
- Links are randomly generated — they are not sequential guessable IDs in a gallery
- There is no “recent uploads” page
- Search engines are not given an index of user files
Anyone who has the exact URL can download until expiry. Do not post links publicly if the content is sensitive.
Automatic deletion
Homepage transfers are deleted after 24 hours. Files you run through online tools are deleted after 2 hours. Short retention means a leaked link does not stay useful for long.
Details: limits & retention.
What we do not do
- We do not sell file contents for ad targeting
- We do not require an account to send or receive files
- Staff policy is not to browse customer files as a product feature
Server logs (IP, timestamps) may exist for abuse prevention and security. See the Privacy Policy.
Your responsibilities
- Share links only with people you trust
- Do not upload illegal content or malware
- Download and keep your own copies of anything important — we do not guarantee recovery after delete
